Pelvic Pain

Pelvic Pain

Pelvic pain is a disorder that causes not only physical pain, but also emotional and mental pain and anxiety. Known broadly as pelvic floor dysfunction, pelvic pain can be a very vague term with many causes and diagnoses that fall under its umbrella.

Pelvic floor dysfunction even causes secondary symptoms that affect the urinary, gastrointestinal and reproductive systems, as well as the stability system of the spine and pelvis. Our specialty-trained therapists can get to the root of your pain and treat the cause, not just the symptoms.

What Causes Pelvic Pain?

Pelvic pain may present as pain in the vaginal or penile areas, perineal region, buttocks, inner thighs, groin or abdomen. It may be aggravated by sitting, walking, exercise, sexual activity, pelvic exams, or urination and bowel movements. This disorder may cause constipation, urinary retention or incontinence, back and hip pain and can significantly impact quality of life.

Often people who suffer from pelvic floor dysfunction are unable to have pleasurable intercourse, or cannot have any at all. They have often seen multiple healthcare providers and have been prescribed everything from topical analgesics to narcotics to anti-depressants without help. Unfortunately, these single approaches don’t help.
